Defence Minister Shri AK Antony today directed high officials of MoD to speed up acquisition of high end equipment for the Armed Forces Hospitals.
So that they could be on par with the best hospitals of the country. Shri Antony was speaking here at the presentation of Raksha Mantri’s Trophy for the Best and Second Best Service Hospitals of Armed Forces Medical Services for the year 2013.
Shri Antony presented the RM’s Trophy for the Best Service Hospital to Command Hospital Central Command, Lucknow and the Second Best Hospital Awards were jointly won by Command Hospital Northern Command, Udhampur and INHS Asvini, Mumbai.
Addressing the gathering the Defence Minister praised the sterling performance of AFMS in providing timely relief to the people in the Uttarakhand Floods and cyclone ‘Phalin’ affected people of Odisha. He said AFMS has also done commendable work during UN humanitarian missions.
In this context he particularly highlighted the humanitarian missions run by AFMS in Maldives, Lebanon, Sudan and Afghanistan.
It may be mentioned that the Raksha Mantri Trophy for Best Service Hospital was instituted in 1989 and the trophy for the Second Best Hospital was instituted in the year 2010 to identify and acknowledge excellence in patient care and hospital management among Command and equivalent hospitals in the Army, Navy and Air Force.
While the trophy for the Best Hospital carries a cash award of Rs 10 lakhs, the Second Best Hospital is awarded a trophy with a cash award of Rs. 1.5 lakhs.
Over the years, the award has helped introduce a healthy competition among these hospitals, urging them to innovate, adapt and to motivate them to improve their performance in order to achieve better patient care and clientele satisfaction.
